We attach importance to reducing
both our greenhouse gas emissions as well as our direct and indirect environmental pollution levels.
Our aim is to further increase and/or implement the energy efficiency of our buildings on a building
by building basis, both with renovation projects as well as new builds by e.g. adhering to the Minergie
standards and realizing innovative solutions.
As a result BEKB | BCBE won the
2006 Solar Award presented by the Solar Agency Switzerland for the solar system installed at the Thun
branch where the concept of solar cooling has been implemented. The
greenhouse gas emissions generated by BEKB | BCBE have been halved between 2001 and 2007. We intend
to further reduce this level of environmental pollution plus our own emissions by a further 5 percent
(base year 2007) by the year 2011 through:
-
stabilizing our electricity consumption as well as using renewable and climate-friendly electricity qualities
-
achieving a further 10% reduction in the consumption of fossil fuels
-
achieving a further 5% reduction in the level of paper consumption and keeping our water consumption at a stable level
-
stabilizing the proportion of operating waste recycled within the 70 - 75% range
BEKB
| BCBE is aiming for CO2 neutrality. The intention is to offset the remaining greenhouse gas emissions
through reduction certificates from the Mittelland region. We make our employees
aware of the need for the economic use of energy and natural resources, for example in the use of paper,
waste disposal or business travel. We account for our performance in terms
of the environment through our environmental performance evaluation and performance indicators
on business
ecology and in this context align ourselves towards international standards.
