Abolition of the state guarantee

An amendment to the law providing for total abolition in stages of the state guarantee granted to BEKB | BCBE, was passed by the cantonal legislature on 16 September 2004. The government determined on 16 February 2005 that the right to have a referendum had not been demanded. The government guarantee was reduced in an initial phase on savings of up to CHF 100,000 per customer and on debenture loans, when the law came into force on 1 January 2006. Final ending of the government guarantee will come about at the end of 2012. The government guarantee will remain effective for bonds which have been issued before this date, until their maturity.
